Hahaha. WeLiveInBeijing is full of creepsters -- both expat and domestic alike -- but the people who run it are really nice. We swear!

The dudes in the photo are a band called Rustic. Good guys. Check 'em out sometime!

More calming, wintery music:
-Kings of Convenience (they have a new album)
-Air (they have a new album too)
-Carla Bruni (I have no idea if she has a new album, she's probably too busy being married to Nicholas Sarkozy)

PS It was 64 degrees today. wtf.

Hey Maya,

Mike Fu pointed me to your fantastic blog. I was surprised to see your post on the Dwarf Empire in Kunming. I've been to the place a bunch of times and have 5+ hours of video footage (performances, interviews, etc.). We're not sure if we'll be able to do anything with what we've got though because a number of TV stations are competing for the rights. We shall see. Anyway, hope all is well!

The only thing I have to take issue with is your bold assertion that "film festivals are rarely held in crappy places." PARK CITY, UTAH????

Enjoying your blog a lot!

You might also find www.pin1yin1.com useful as a translator. It's really good for copying characters over from the interwebs, and then it translates it into pinyin and gives a character by character exegesis in English. Sounds like a pretty standard translator/dictionary, but give it a try with some (lengthy) forum topic on mop and you'll see what I'm talking about-- not great if you want to quickly understand (in English) what's going on, but great if you're trying to understand what was written in Chinese (if that makes sense).

Anyway, really enjoy the blog! Makes me miss China (well, sort of).
